GAME SUMMARY
New York High School Basketball - Mt. Vernon routs Ramapo

(December 12, 2007: Spring Valley, NY 10977) In Wednesday's non-league outing, the Mt. Vernon Knights (Mt. Vernon, NY) basketball squad overwhelmed the host Ramapo Gryphons (Spring Valley, NY), by a margin of 85-41.

The Knights (1-0) will now prepare for their outing against Saunders Trades & Tech (Yonkers, NY). The Blue Devils go into the non-league outing with a 1-3 record. In their last outing, Saunders Trades & Tech was trounced by Mamaroneck (Mamaroneck, NY), 57-32, in a non-league outing.

The Gryphons now own a 1-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Pawling for a non-league outing on Thursday, December 13. Ramapo will encounter a Tigers squad coming off a 54-26 non-league win over Schechter (Hartsdale, NY). The Tigers record now stands at 2-2.


Scoring Summary
First Quarter
The first qrtr was led by Taylor Palmer, Nadia Duncan and Kwinnyata Mercer scoring 6, 4 and 6 respectively. Shanyce Stewart scored the only other MV points.
Second Quarter
Taylor Palmer continued her hot shooting in the second qrtr scoring 9. Nadia Duncan scored 6, Mercer 5 and Stewart 1. That completed the scoring for the first half. Nadia Duncan had 9 steals in the first half. Kwnnyata Mercer had 6 steals in the first half. Shanyce Stewart also had 6 steals in the first half along with seven boards.
Third Quarter
This qrtr was the strongest for MV. Nadia Duncan scored 14 in this qrtr while Mercer scored 10. Eighth grader Sade King had 4 points and ninth grader Carece Moore scored a foul shot. Overall the team scored 29 points in the qrtr while holding their opponent to 9. Duncan, Mercer and Palmer also were removed from the game with 3 minutes to play in the third qrtr and did not return.
Forth Quarter
The last quarter was set aside for the MV reserves. They held Ramapo to 6 points while scoring 16. 7 points were scored by junior Maquasia Campbell on (5 of 6 from the free throw line). Ramona Miles, Sade King, Tatiana Lewin and Juretta Green all scored a basket and Carece Moore scored a foul shot.
