GAME SUMMARY
New York High School Basketball - Mt. Vernon tipped by Kennedy

(January 26, 2008: Bronx, NY 10463) In Saturday's non-league match, the host Kennedy Knights basketball team scored a tight 61-59 triumph over the Mt. Vernon Knights.

In their next game, the Knights confront the Douglass Academy Lions (New York, NY) in a PSAL Bronx/Manhattan AA match, on Wednesday, January 30. Kennedy will attempt to better on its 12-4 season record. The Lions enter the match with a 5-7 record after their 45-39 league win over Truman (Bronx, NY).

With the defeat, Mt. Vernon moves to 14-1 on the year. The Knights travel to White Plains (White Plains, NY) to confront the Tigers in a Section 1 I - A match on Tuesday, January 29. The Tigers enter the match with a record of 8-7. White Plains lost 56-28 in their recent non-league match against Archbishop Molloy (Queens, NY)


Scoring Summary
First Quarter
JFK jumped out to a commanding 1st qrtr lead. This was the first qrtr MV lost this season. JFK scored on fast breaks and shots in the paint. They were led by center, Veronica Ruiz with 10 and Tiara Share with 8. MV got 4 from Taylor Palmer and 5 from Kwinnyata Mercer.
Second Quarter
The second qrtr also belonged to JFK. They outscored MV by 5 as they continued to play swarming defense and offense. MV scored 11 as several pple scored 2 points each. MV was down by its biggest margin this season (18 points at the half).
Third Quarter
The third qrtr belonged to MV. Sade King (8th grader) started the second half. She played phenomenally and helped to bring the team back to an 11 point deficit. MV scored 20 points in the qrtr led by Taylor Palmer with 8 points on 2 threes.
Forth Quarter
The fourth qrtr was exciting. MV made a fierce run and outscored JFK 17 to 8. MV had the final possession after a 3 by Sade King brought the game to within 2 and a shot by Nadia by Nadia Duncan tied the game. A foul by MV and a turnover by JFK with 1 second remaining allowed MV to have the final opportunity. The inbound half court pass was mishandled and MV did not get a shot off. It was an exciting game.
