GAME SUMMARY
New York High School Basketball - Yonkers nudges Pelham Memorial

(January 14, 2008: Yonkers, NY 10705) In Monday's league outing, the Yonkers Bulldogs (Yonkers, NY) basketball squad edged the visiting Pelham Memorial Pelicans (Pelham, NY), by a count of 55-51.

The Bulldogs (7-6) will now prepare for their outing against Woodlands (Hartsdale, NY). The Falcons go into the Section 1 III - B outing with a 0-9 record. In their last outing, Woodlands was tipped by Edgemont (Scarsdale, NY), 52-44, in a league outing.

The Pelicans now hold a 7-5 record. They take the field next when they host Rye for a Section 1 III - B outing on Wednesday, January 16. Pelham Memorial will encounter a Garnets squad coming off a 70-63 league loss to Yonkers (Yonkers, NY). The Garnets record now stands at 4-6.


Scoring Summary
First Quarter
Pelham came out strong proving they were the bigger stronger team by outrebounding the Yonkers Bulldogs.
Second Quarter
Yonkers came out with a strong defensive front in the second quarter limiting the Pelicans to only 3 2pt.-fieldgoals and 4 free throws. The Bulldogs scored 5 2pt.-fieldgoals and made 3 free throws, putting themselves in a good position to close out the half with a score of 25 to the Pelicans 26.
Third Quarter
Yonkers came out strong defensively in the third quarter limiting the Pelicans to only 6 points. The Bulldogs closed the third quarter with 7 points. Both teams battled for good rebounding position.
Forth Quarter
The battle was on! Pelham jumped ahead early in the Fourth quarter building an 8 point lead, but the Yonkers Bulldogs fought to get themselves back in the game. Down by six, Coach Parashis signaled to press and foul on the inbounds. Pelham missed 3 out of there last four free throws with under two minutes left in the game. Yonkers scored a quick lay up to narrow the score. London Reyes found an opening outside the 3-point line and hammered a 3. There was only a 3-point separation now. Frances DeLuca Quickly fouled the Pelicans on the inbounds and took only 2 seconds off the clock. The Pelicans missed both free throws. The Bulldogs hustled down the court to find Frances DeLuca open for the 3. Nothing but net. What a clutch play! The score was tied with only 14 seconds left. The Pelicans had the final shot and missed. The game was settled in OT.
Overtime
Sami Kukic hustled down the court for a fast break and was fouled. He made 1 for 2 at the free throw line. Gary McQueen made 1 for 2. The nail in the coffin was a London Reyes Assist to Sami Kukic for the quick lay-up.From there London Reyes picked up the in-bounds pass and was fouled two different times. London Reyes was 4 for 4 at the Free throw line in OT.

Frances DeLuca was the Clutch Player of the Game
London was the clutch player in OT capitalizing on his Free Throws.

The MVP was the Yonkers Bulldogs as it was a Team Victory.
Hats off to the Pelicans.
