Velasquez Set to Assist MaxPreps in New Mexico

CAMERON PARK, Calif. --- Leonard Velasquez, a veteran coach, administrator, and teacher, has been named MaxPreps' Territory Manager for New Mexico.

"We are very excited about having Leonard join our team," MaxPreps' Southwest Regional Manager Stan Granch said. "He is definitely one of the movers and shakers of high school sports in New Mexico. His passion, knowledge, and expertise have me convinced New Mexico is in good hands."

Velasquez has been deeply involved with high school athletics for the past 16 years, coaching football, basketball, track & field, and baseball. For the past eight years, he has served as an athletic director at Santa Rosa High School, the Vaughn Municipal Schools, and currently, Tucumcari High School.

Velasquez earned 2004-2005 Athletic Director of the Year honors in New Mexico, and also held a one-year term as President of the state's Athletic Directors Association while his brother, David, was the President of the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

As a coach, the New Mexico Highlands University graduate contributed to four state championship teams - one in basketball, and three in football all while at Santa Rosa High School.
