After 44 years as a high school football coach, the past 40 spent as the head man, Persons (Forsyth, Ga.) coach Rodney Walker decided it was time.

Walker announced his retirement Thursday, ending a career that spanned nine schools in Georgia and one in South Carolina, the past six at his alma mater.

According to The Telegraph, Walker exits with a career mark of 302-150-3 and 24 playoff appearances. The 302 wins ties him for 31st nationally for career victories according to the record book of the National Federation of State High School Associations.

"I've been involved with a lot lives with the players I've coached," Walker told the newspaper. "Now it's time to be involved with my family's lives. They've made sacrifices to let me do what I do."
