He needed a couple of extra days, but
Jameis Winston of
Hueytown (Ala.) made it official on Friday by signing a football scholarship with Florida State University.

Jameis Winston
Winston missed National Signing Day while attending the International Bowl, but he stayed true to his FSU commitment, which he made last August. He also considered Alabama and LSU.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback and No. 12 overall player in the Class of 2012 by CBS/MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.
As a senior he passed for 2,424 yards, ran for 1,065 yards and accounted for 44 touchdowns while being the No. 2 vote getter for Alabama's Mr. Football.
FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said in a press release, "Jameis is a true impact guy. He can be a great player for us. Not only from his physical standpoint, but from the way he approaches the game, the competitiveness which he has and the demand for excellence he puts on himself. He brings a lot of things to the table. We think he's one of the great ones out there."
His high school coach, Matt Scott, told the Associated Press that his "phenomenal football knowledge and competitiveness set him apart. He's the most vicious player on Friday night I've ever been around."
FSU coaches shouldn't celebrate too early, however, because Winston also is a top professional baseball prospect and could go very high in June's Major League Draft.
