Say the name Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.)
and the powerhouse football program immediately comes to mind.
Don't look now, but the school's lacrosse program is making its move, as well.
As reported by The (Bergen) Record
, Don Bosco clinched the program's first title ever – in this instance the Gibbs Division crown – with a 14-3 win Thursday against perennial power Mountain Lakes (N.J.) The Ironmen improved to 11-0, the best start in school history.
"They're one of the best teams in the state, so to do this against them is huge for us," junior attackman Jack Ray told the newspaper. "We've never won the Gibbs Division, and to beat a team like Mountain Lakes for it, with everything coming down to this one game, is great. We really showed up and played one of our best games all year."
In South Carolina, the state crowned its first official boys lacrosse champion
when Hammond (Columbia, S.C.)
beat Heathwood Hall Episcopal (Columbia, S.C.) 12-6 last weekend. Hammond won the club title in 2010, but this season marked the first time the state championship was sanctioned by the South Carolina Independent School Association.
