  • Lindsey Fadnek tied her career-high with 20 strikeouts on Friday while leading Coalfield (Tenn.) to an 8-0 victory over North Greene (Greeneville, Tenn.) during the Class A sectional tournament.

The 5-foot-7 senior, who has signed with Marshall University, added to her state record and now has 1,877 strikeouts during her outstanding five-year career.

Two days earlier she fanned 16 during a 7-0 victory over Grace Christian (Knoxville, Tenn.).

"That just (means) a great deal," Coach Jennifer Laurendine told MaxPreps. "We knew she could do it at the beginning of the year. She really deserves it. She has worked so hard and done a great job."

Laurendine said that her ace has an excellent rise, curve, screwball and change-up and can throw as hard as 68 miles per hour, though she usually is in the 64-65 range. She also is one of her team's top hitters with eight home runs.

The Yellowjackets (37-8-1) are now four victories away from the state title. The tourney will start Tuesday in Murfreesboro, with the title game on Friday.
