St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.)Kathy Jenkins, who has coached girls lacrosse since 1976, won her 600th game this week as
routed Holy Child (Potomac, Md.) 15-2.
The 61-year-old coach, who helped start the program, is believed to be only the second high school girls lacrosse coach to win 600 games. The leader is Angela Tammaro, who was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1996 and has won 668 games at Greenwich Academy (Greenwich, Conn.)
overt the past 47 years.
Jenkins has won 24 conference championships and tutored eight undefeated teams. This year's team, which received five goals in the milestone game from Carly Reed
, has a 17-3 record with all of its losses being by a single goal.
Don't expect Jenkins to retire any time soon.
She told WUSA9.com, "I never wanted to leave. I think I'll be on my deathbed when I leave," she said with a laugh.
