  Findlay Prep escapes with win in opening round of National High School Invitational

  Findlay Prep's Nigel Williams-Goss scored 26 points in the quarterfinals against Montrose Christian to set up a semifinal showdown with St. Benedict's Prep.

  Ranked No. 1 in MaxPreps.com's Academy Top 10 and the top seed in the National High School Invitational, Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) almost saw its stay in Maryland for the event become a very brief one.
  
  But once again it was Nigel Williams-Goss coming to the rescue for the Pilots, scoring 26 points as Findlay Prep rallied for a 57-53 win over Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) in the opening round of the NHSI held at Georgetown Prep in Bethesda.
  
  Montrose Christian, who received a team-high 21 points from Ishmail Wainright, led 48-42 going into the final eight minutes, but the Pilots fought back to improve to 35-0 this season and extend their overall win streak to 54 games.

  5 persons shot after high school basketball game

  Four teenage boys and a young male adult were shot Friday night while leaving a Warren Easton (New Orleans, La.) basketball game.
  
  Police told WWL TV that the injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.
  
  The police report indicated that an unidentified black man with dreadlocks fired into the crowd, hitting four teenagers and the young man in the lower extremities. It was unclear if those who were injured were the main targets.
  
  It was a deadly night in New Orleans overall as 10 people were shot, two of them fatally.

  Nick Emery for MVP at Beach Ball?

  This week's Beach Ball Classic features the nation's top senior in Shabazz Muhammad of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.). But junior guard Nick Emery of Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) is stealing a bit of the spotlight in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with his scoring exploits.
  
  Emery – committed to BYU and Utah's reigning player of the year – opened the event with a 37-point outburst in a lopsided win over Myrtle Beach. He connected on 13 of 23 field goals in that contest, drilling six 3-pointers.
  
  Tonight against St. Augustine (New Orleans, La.), Emery went for 32 more as the Knights advanced to the semifinals to face Whitney Young (Chicago, Ill.) – a surprise winner over City of Palms Classic champion Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas).
  
  Bishop Gorman and Milton (Ga.)Milton meet on the other side of the bracket.
  
  Findlay Prep falls in South Dakota
  
  The top-ranked team in MaxPreps.com's Academy Top 10 suffered its first defeat of the season Thursday night at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
  
  La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.) knocked off No. 1 Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) at the Mike Miller Classic, getting 18 points from Southern Illinois pledge Antonio Drummond. Purdue signee Raphael Davis added 14 points for the victorious Lakers.
  
  Findlay Prep (13-1), who received a game-high 25 points from junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss, was the overall preseason No. 1. The loss paves the way for undefeated Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) to take over the top spot pending Friday night's championship game at the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon.

  State Farm TOC highlights Thanksgiving slate

  Anthony Davis of Perspectives is headed to<br> Kentucky, and the State Farm Tournament of<br> Champions.

  Stealing the show this season in terms of Thanksgiving events, the State Farm Tournament of Champions in Washington, Ill., will play host to 24 teams and over 30 games Nov. 23-27.

  The participating schools are divided into four different "brackets" and play round-robin to determine a champion in each. The event's official site has a complete schedule available here.

  Past standouts include Jerryd Bayless (New Orleans Hornets), Ed Davis (Toronto Raptors) and Donte Green (Sacramento Kings).

  Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), ranked No. 3 in MaxPreps.com's preseason top 25, is the team with the biggest target on its back. Academy of the New Church (Bryn Athyn, Pa.), LaLumiere (LaPorte, Ind.) and Wallace (Gary, Ind.) are other programs playing in the event that could attract national attention this winter.

  Several Top 100 talents will be part of the festivities, including Kentucky signee Anthony Davis of Perspectives (Chicago, Ill.), a 6-foot-9 forward rated No. 6 overall in the 2011 class. Findlay Prep features point guard Myck Kabongo (No. 11, Texas signee), shooting guard Nick Johnson (No. 18, Arizona) and small forward Amir Garrett (No. 95, uncommitted).
