Of all the ways to lose a football game, the loss that Peabody (Mass.)
took on Friday could be among the most painful.
Peabody lost the ball at the Danvers (Mass.)
15-yard line and Alex Valles returned the fumble 85 yards for a Danvers touchdown with no time remaining to come away with a stunning 20-14 victory over Peabody.According to the Salem News
, Danvers had turned the ball over on its own 20-yard line moments earlier after allowing Peabody to tie the score, 14-14, with under two minutes remaining.
The momentum had shifted to Peabody, which look poised to at least attempt a game-winning field goal.
That all changed in an instant thanks to Valles' heroics.
"I saw the ball and I went for it. I stripped it away and just started running," Valles told the Salem News. "We have that mentality where we came come back from anything. We have confidence in ourselves and our teammates."
With the victory, Danvers improves to 2-1 on the season.
