We've definitely seen some exciting endings to state title games, like pickoffs and grand slams.
A four-base, walk-off strikeout? That's a new one.
It just sounds impossible when we sum up how Billings West (Mont.)
beat Big Sky (Missoula, Mont.)
on Saturday, 3-2. The game was tied at two when Kendyl Boltz swung and
missed at strike three in the seventh inning of the Montana Class AA
title game. She then took off running to first base. One bad throw
allowed her to keep moving to second, and she just kept going all the
way to home plate (thanks to one more errant throw).
So to recap: A player swung and missed, then scored the winning run in the same at-bat - to win a state title.
"Having a strikeout has its advantages I guess,” Boltz told the Great Falls Tribune
West lost to Big Sky earlier in the tournament so it had to win twice
to take the title, and the title victory was the team's fifth game of
the day (all elimination victories).h/t Deadspin, KTMF
