In case you missed it, baby powder – yes, baby powder – caused the boys basketball game between
Palmer (Colorado Springs) and
Doherty (Colorado Springs) to be postponed at halftime on Jan. 20. The powder was spilled on the floor during a halftime performance, and Palmer officials determined the surface was unsafe to continue.
The game resumed Wednesday night, with Palmer holding on for a 38-37 victory in the Class 5A Colorado Springs Metro League. Of course, the situation wasn't ideal, but at least the Doherty students maintained a good sense of humor by sporting surgical masks Wednesday, according to Brent Briggeman of

* The chances of
Fairview (Boulder) to claim the Class 5A girls state swimming championship Feb. 10-11 were delivered a big blow, as Abigail Houck, the defending champion in the 500-yard freestyle, will not compete at the state meet.
Pat Rooney and BoCoPreps.com reported today that Houck instead will attend USA Swimming's Missouri Grand Prix that same weekend. Houck also was part of the Knights' top relay teams.

Pueblo East has reinstated head football coach David Ramirez, who sat out last season after being suspended for an altercation with a male student.

* The non-league boys basketball game between defending Class 4A champion
Sterling and
Centaurus (Lafayette) scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. The game had been rescheduled from early December when it was postponed by weather. No reschedule is expected.
* Colorado High School Activities Association associate commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green is one of four finalists for the executive director position with the Nebraska School Activities Association. Blanford-Green has ties to the Cornhusker State. After a stellar prep career at Aurora Central, she was an All-American in track and field at the University of Nebraska.
