It didn't take long for the new California Interscholastic Federation rule which relaxes transfer rules to pay dividends for perennial football powerhouse Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
The Daily Pilot reported that one of California's top sophomore linemen, Sam Bush, is transferring from Newport Harbor (Newport Beach, Calif.)
. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle made many honor teams last fall.
Under old rules he would have to sit out a year because his family is not moving. Under the new rule he can begin playing on Oct. 1.
His father, Blaine, told the Daily Pilot that the decision was made on the basis of religious faith, Mater Dei's curriculum and strength of the football program.
