rallied in the final set to keep its win streak alive at 56 dual matches in a row Thursday at home.
Chaparral, the two-time defending Class 5A state champions in Colorado, won the first two games of the matchup between defending state champs, 25-19, 26-24, but Cheyenne Mountain rallied to win the next two, 27-25, 25-18.
With the match tied at 9-9 in the final game, Chaparral coach T.R. Ellis told The Denver Post
that passing the ball was the key to the win. Chaparral is ranked No. 3 in the MaxPreps XCellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings
presented by the Army National Guard, while Cheyenne Mountain is No. 23.
"We just talked about controlling the ball, getting one or two of our passes on the dot, so that we were able to set who we wanted to set and we were in control," Ellis said.
Chaparral went on to win the fifth game 15-10. The loss for Cheyenne Mountain ended a 49-match win streak for the four-time Class 4A state champions.
The Chaparral 56-match win streak is believed to be the second-longest active streak in the nation behind Papillion-LaVista South, which has won 82 in a row.
