Life couldn't have been grander for St. Petersburg Catholic (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
running back Ryan Green
The No. 88-ranked recruit in the country
had a Florida State scholarship all secured. He opened his 2012 high school season with a vintage performance.
But now this. According to the Tampa Bay Tribune
, Green tore his labrum and is out for the season. This after he rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns and added a 73-yard TD reception in a win over Sarasota last week.
Green wasn't injured in the game. He had injured the shoulder in a scrimmage earlier in the summer. But according to his father Vader Green, his son woke up Wednesday complaining about pain in his shoulder. His dad took him for a MRI and Thursday the worst news was revealed.
"It's tough," St. Petersburg Catholic coach Steve Dudley told the newspaper. "Ryan was our home run threat. Even more, he was the leader of our team just by the example he set."
Said Vader Green: "He could probably play if he had to, but there's no reason to risk injuring it further or making it worse."
