Three of the top recruits from North Carolina, all of whom are ranked in the MaxPreps.com Top 100 nationally, followed through on their commitments during National Signing Day today.
Butler (Matthews) quarterback Christian Lemay
signed with Georgia and Butler outside linebacker/wide reciever Kris Frost
signed with Auburn, while Mallard Creek (Charlotte) quarterback Marquise Williams
signed with North Carolina.
Lemay, the 67th-ranked prospect on the MaxPreps Top 100
, had chosen Georgia last year over finalists Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas A&M. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder was named MaxPreps National Junior of the Year after completing 170 of 248 passes for 3,926 yards and 44 touchdowns and just two interceptions in 2009. But he sat out the 2010 season instead of facing a possible 30-day school "code of conduct" suspension.
Despite Lemay's absence, Frost helped lead Butler to a second straight undefeated season and another 4AA state title by recording 103 tackles and five sacks. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior, ranked 93rd, was a first-team linebacker on the MaxPreps 2010 U.S. Air Force All-American Football team and declared to Auburn while competing in the U.S. Army All-American game
Williams, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback, was 80th on the list after an eye-popping senior season that saw him complete 170 of 254 passes for 3,034 yards and 45 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,147 yards and 19 scores. He is the cousin of former Tar Heel Robert Williams and chose UNC last summer over finalists Michigan and Virginia Tech.Harold Gutmann covers the state of North Carolina for MaxPreps.com.
