A trio of softball players turned in impressive performances that they undoubtedly will remember for a long time.
As reported by
The Salt Lake Tribune,
Hunter (West Valley City, Utah) sophomore
Tess Matagi hit two grand slams in a 16-0 victory against Kearns (Utah). Hunter coach Wes Haymond appreciated the rarity of the feat.
"You know how unusual that is?" Haymond told the newspaper. "That's like finding a hen's tooth in a chicken yard. I've been around this game forever and I've never seen that. It blew me away."
Matagi, who upped her home run total to eight, blasted her first grand slam in the second inning and followed with her second in her ensuing at-bat in the fourth.
The power surge reached the other side of the country, as
Olivia Tatara of
Stone Bridge (Ashburn, Va.) blasted three consecutive home runs over two games Saturday. As reported by
The Washington Post, the junior catcher then later won her team's game against Broad Run (Ashburn, Va.) with a walk-off bases loaded single.
"She had a day," Stone Bridge coach Billy Rice told the newspaper. "She's been down a little bit this year, but we've been working with her really hard and she just unleashed it today."
For
Clinton (Mich.), ace
Tierney Nelson not only fired a no-hitter in a 10-0 win against Morenci (Mich.), she also eclipsed 1,000 career strikeouts for the Redskins. According to the
Daily Telegram, Nelson struck out the first six batters she faced to notch the milestone, en route to 13 strikeouts in the game.
