Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.)
) quarterback Reilly O'Toole
, who led the Tigers to two consecutive Illinois Class 7A championships, signed a letter-of-intent Wednesday with the University of Illinois, as expected. He had verbaled to the Illini last year.
O'Toole, 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, passed for more than 5,000 yards and 66 touchdowns the last two seasons, including 3,187 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2010 when WW South went unbeaten.
O'Toole's other scholarship offers included Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern.
"Reilly's the real deal," WW South head coach Ron Muhitch says. "He does so many things well with the offense in terms of running a play or calling a play, just getting kids to execute a play."
The Illini not only grabbed O'Toole, but several other notable Chicago-area recruits. Naperville North quarterback Matt LaCosse
, who will likely play tight end in college, went to Illinois after de-committing from Minnesota when the Gophers made a coaching change after the 2010 season. The Illini got a name running back in Joliet Catholic Academy's Josh Ferguson
, who rushed for more than 3,000 yards in two seasons.
Other Chicago-area recruits signing with Illinois include offensive lineman Scott McDowell
of Hinsdale Central and defensive lineman Chris O'Connor
