Leave it to Las Vegas to establish an undercard for a matchup between high school boys basketball heavyweights.
When powerhouses Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas)
and Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.)
meet Jan. 21 at the University of Las Vegas' Cox Pavilion, they will not be the only game on the court that day.
As part of a full day of basketball festivities, two other high school games will precede the marquee event. Las Vegas-area league rivals Coronado (Henderson, Nev.)
and Foothill (Henderson, Nev.)
will meet at noon,
while tipping off the day will be Ribet Academy (Los Angeles)
and St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.)
The big game, which drew a crowd of more than 2,500 to the venue last
year, is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNU. Bishop Gorman is ranked in the final spot of the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Rankings
presented by the Army National Guard, while Findlay Prep is No. 2 in the Academy Top 10 National Rankings
, also presented by the ANG.
Coronado and Foothill, who both played in the recent MaxPreps Holiday Classic, agreed to move their Jan. 10 league game to be part of the event.
"It's going to be a great experience for them," Foothill coach Kevin Soares told the Las Vegas Sun
. "They get to play where UNLV sometimes practices and in front of a nice crowd."
