Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.)
retained its consensus No. 1 national ranking by edging No. 2 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio)
27-22 in the finals on Saturday during the 11th annual National High School Coaches Association Wrestling Festival in Brodheadsville, Pa.
The dual-meet affair drew 20 teams from six states.
Mark Grey clinched the victory by outlasting St. Edward's Edgar Bright 2-1 in a double overtime thriller at 132 pounds during the meet's final match.
"St. Ed's is a great team and this is a great win for us," Blair coach Jeff Buxton told the Express-News. "We felt good knowing that if it came down to (Mark) Grey, at the end he would get us the win."
St. Edward coach Greg Urbas told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "That was a classic. It was a brawl - great for wrestling. Our kids wrestled tough and proud."
Blair also had beaten the Eagles during the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament in December. *Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, Va.)
