Despite suffering several injuries, Fayetteville (Ark.)
senior star Sydney Conley won one event and shared a record in a second event during the Class 7A state track meet in Rogers, Ark.
The daughter of Olympic gold medalist Mike Conley, Sydney won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 9 inches, and shared a new triple jump record of 39 feet with Brittani Reagan of Bentonville (Ark.)
. Raegan was given first place because her second-best effort of 38-7 1/4 bested Conley by one-quarter of an inch.
Conley told MaxPreps, "The tendon in my knee started hurting after the long jump. When I started the triple jump, it made it worse. From then on my hamstring hurt. In the 100 halfway down I couldn't even keep my stride and my right leg tightened up. I iced it and ran the 4x100 because my team needed me. I tried to get ready for the 200 (after running the prelims), but I couldn't do it."
She said that she may not compete in next week's Meet of Champions, but she feels confident that she will be ready for the big meets of the summer starting in June. Har-Ber (Springdale, Ark.)
sophomore Payton Stumbaugh stole the show with five first places. She won the pole vault (10-6), high jump (5-3), 100-meter hurdles (14.98), 300-meter hurdles (44.74) and the 200-meter dash (25.35).
