Mathew NeSmith and Jaye Marie Green won prestigious golf titles on Friday during the 35th annual Rolex Tournament of Champions in Alpharetta, Ga.
NeSmith, a recent graduate from North Augusta (North Augusta, S.C.)
, captured the boys crown with a four-day total of 271, which is 9-under-par. Playing very consistently, NeSmith carded 21 birdies, 39 pars and nothing worse than a bogey. He won by four strokes over Brad Dalke, an incoming freshman from McKinney (Texas)
The University of South Carolina recruit told reporters, "I always thought I under-achieved a bit. I always felt like I was pretty good and never really got to that top stature. I worked my tail off this entire year and everything is starting to pay off and It feels really, really good."
Green, who is from Boca Raton (Fla.)
, just graduated this spring and plans to turn professional at the end of the summer.
She tied Karen Chung of Livingston (N.J.)
, at the end of four rounds with 3-under-par 277 before emerging victorious during a one-hole playoff.
