was named the 2011 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, earning the nod for his performance at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship last summer.
"It means a lot to get this award," Parker said. "I'm honored and grateful for the selection. It shows that at an early age I had a good summer. I'm thankful all of the hard work paid off."
Parker, a 6-foot-8 small forward considered the nation's top junior, averaged 15.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game at the FIBA Americas event in Mexico, helping the United States capture the gold medal.
Simeon (13-0) is ranked No. 1 in this week's Xcellent 25
presented by the Army National Guard and has won 20 games in a row dating back to last season. With Parker playing a lead role, the Wolverines have captured the last two Class 4A state titles in Illinois.
