Justin Dehmer resigned this week, according to the Des Moines Register, after leading a small Iowa school to national baseball prominence.
Over the past three years, Dehmer coached Martensdale-St. Mary's (Martensdale, Iowa)
to an incredible 88-game winning streak and three Class A state championships. The Blue Devils, who play summer baseball, actually broke the national record, but lost it to Portsmouth (N.H.), which plays in the spring and wound up with 89 consecutive victories.
Dehmer told the Register, "I love to coach, but I love my family more than baseball and more than winning state championships. I love competing and all that stuff. I'm sure I'll stay connected with the game."
The ultra successful coach, who teaches at Southeast Polk (Runnells, Iowa), said of the past three years, "It's a special thing that I'll certainly never forget."
