Gone are the days of writing names and jersey numbers on the back of cleats, sneakers and socks.
The year 2012 equivalent of athletes micro-branding part of their uniform appears to be personally embroidered cleats.
Reigning
U.S. Air Force National Sophomore of the Year Jabrill Peppers appears to be setting the trend.
Peppers, one of the top recruits in the Class of 2014, transferred from Don Bosco Prep to
Paramus Catholic (N.J.) during the offseason.
As such he'll be switching from maroon and white uniforms to gold and silver, including these flashy Nike cleats embroidered with his name and jersey number (Peppers wore No. 18 last year and is switching to No. 5 this fall.)
The only problem with Peppers' fashion statement is that he's so fast - clocking sub 11-second times in the 100 meters - that few will be able to get a glimpse of his cleats.
