Jarrett Guarantano

In an effort to jump on in-state recruits before they get offers from competitors, Rutgers offered a verbal scholarship to promising freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano today, according to Guarantano's father James.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound incoming freshman projects as one of the top rising freshmen nationally. He's only 14 years old, with a Nov. 14, 1997 birthday.

Guarantano attended camp at Rutgers today when he received the verbal offer from the Scarlet Knights staff.

James Guarantano was a dominant receiver for Rutgers, hauling in a record 158 receptions. The younger Guarantano has already taken visits to Oklahoma and Notre Dame.

Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) returns senior Jonathan Germano at quarterback, as well as several promising underclassmen at the position, according to head coach Nunzio Campanile, who believes Guarantano has a chance to be special.

Guarantano should compete for a starting job as a sophomore and will likely begin the season on the Crusaders' freshman team.
