Covering High School Sports in America
The Camp twins are promising freshman basketball players at Wilson (Portsmouth, Va.), but they have one problem - they rarely can find shoes large enough to fit them.

According to the Virginian Pilot,  6-foot-3 Janeen wears size 20 men's shoes, while 5-11 Janae wears size 15. Both, of course, are still growing. Their father, Reginald, is 6-8 and he wears size 16.  Reginald and Johanna have 18 children, ranging from ages seven to 37, and nine still live at home.

NBA giants Bob Lanier and Shaquille O'Neal wore size 22 during their careers.

As a back-up varsity player, Janeen is averaging six points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Janae averages 13 points and 10 rebounds for the JV and also does some spot duty for the varsity.

Coach Roger Smith, who wears size 14 shoes, told the newspaper, "They're very athletic and have good footwork. With the size of their feet and with how tall they are ... it has my mind spinning."

Oh, yes, they also have 11-year-old twin sisters who already are wearing size 13 men's shoes.

Looking down the talent-laden road, Smith vowed, "So I'm not going nowhere anytime soon."

*Sophomore Dara Pearson scored a career-high 43 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Hampton (Va.) to an 87-11 rout of Denbigh (Newport News, Va.). She did not play in the fourth quarter.

*Carlie Wagner, a high-scoring junior point guard from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (New Richland, Minn.), has made a commitment to the University of Minnesota, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She is averaging 32.7 points and holds the state tournament single-game record of 48 points. She also is the defending Class A state champion in the high jump.
