The Riverview (Oakmont, Pa.)
football team has not one - but two girls - on its 2012 roster, according to the Tribune-Review. Lauren Wilson
is a 5-foot-6, 145-pound freshman who is listed on both the offensive and defensive line. She earned some playing time last year on the line in junior high.
Though her chances of getting much varsity playing time this year are slim, coach Todd Massack noted, "Lauren took part in our weight and speed programs and she hangs in there. We have a lot of respect for the fact she's out there. There are a lot of guys not willing to put in the time she does. The biggest compliment we can pay her is that we consider her a Raider football player."
The second girl, Roya Fashandi
, is a senior who kicks extra points and field goals. She was a member of the team last year after previously keeping statistics. She is a standout soccer player and coaches asked her to kick after watching her soccer expertise.
