Andrew Wiggins is on the short list for MaxPreps National Player of the Year honors.

Huntington Prep (W.Va.) senior star Andrew Wiggins was the subject of a Sports Illustrated piece by Pete Thamel that dropped Thursday.

It wasn't exactly a glowing depiction of the Canadian phenom –'s top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2013.

Thamel detailed the failures of recent basketball imports from Canada, highlighted his relationship with controversial Toronto hoops coach/handler Ro Russell, hit on his father's past substance abuse issues and raised questions about his motivation.

Wiggins responded Thursday night with a career high 57 points to go along with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in a 111-59 win over the Marietta (Ohio) College junior varsity squad.

"After that article dropped, I knew I had to respond," Wiggins told Zac Jackson of Fox Sports Ohio. "That was the best way to respond."

According to Jackson and social media reports, Wiggins went 24 of 28 from the field.

The Express, ranked No. 6 in the MaxPreps Academy Top 10, improved to 25-2 on the season. Wiggins will be on the short list for every major national player of the year award and is expected to choose between Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina in the coming months.
