The No. 2-ranked boys basketball team in the nation was handed an upset loss on Wednesday.
Top-seeded
Simeon (Chicago) was nipped by sixth-seeded
Morgan Park (Chicago), 54-53, during the Chicago Public Schools League Tournament semifinals at Chicago State University. Simeon, which is No. 2 in the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25, lost for just the third time in 25 outings. Morgan Park is ranked No. 24 this week by MaxPreps in the Xcellent 25 and 14th nationally in the Freeman Rankings.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Morgan Park won with a balanced attack, led by
Kyle Davis with 15 points. But close behind were
Markee Williams with 12 and
Billy Garrett Jr. with 11.
Senior All-American
Jabari Parker set the pace for Simeon with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Kendall Pollard added 11 and
Kendrick Nunn had 10.
Simeon had edged Morgan Park 53-51 in mid-January.
