One of Iowa's greatest wrestling coaches, Brad Smith of Iowa City (Iowa), announced his retirement this week to end an outstanding 34-year career.

The 58-year-old Smith, who coached at two high schools, is the No. 3 dual-meet winner in Iowa history with 463 victories. He coached 10 state team champions (No. 2 in Iowa history), nine state runner-ups, five state dual champions and 41 individual state champions. Three of his athletes each won four individual state titles.

A former NCAA champion (142 pounds) at the University of Iowa, Smith is a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Wrestling Hall of Fame and was named National Coach of the Year in 1990.
