, the standout point guard for La Cueva (Albuquerque, N.M.)
, has committed to play basketball at the University of New Mexico, according to the Albuquerque Journal
The question in the Land of Enchantment, though, is whether his dad, Steve Alford, will be there to coach him with the Lobos. The Santa Fe New Mexican
reported that the elder Alford, who completed his fifth season as head coach at New Mexico by leading the Lobos to the NCAA Tournament, is a candidate for the same position at Kansas State.
Alford was mentioned as a candidate for other coaching openings last season, but speculation on Lobos fan sites has him staying put so that he can coach his son, who averaged 25.3 points and 4.6 assists last season.
The Santa Fe paper reported the elder Alford was attending the Final Four and was unavailable for comment.
