Aledo (Aledo, Texas)
running back Johnathan Gray
notched his 205th career touchdown, a national record
, in Aledo's 49-28 victory over Manvel.
He surpassed the record of 204 previously held by former Onondaga (Nedrow, N.Y.)
star Michael Hart, who went on to play at Michigan.
Gray entered the game tied with Hart. However, he left briefly after suffering a shoulder injury in the first half, making it uncertain whether or not he'd break the record.
He returned, but struggled to break loose. Finally, a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave him the record. Gray finished with 240 yards, helping Aledo win its third-straight state title.
Gray is a contender in what is considered the greatest Player of the Year race ever
. He is committed to play at Texas.
