Luke Del Rio enrolled at
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) on Monday and will be a strong candidate for the starting quarterback position on the 2012 football team.
Jack Del Rio, Luke's father and the newly hired defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, confirmed The Denver Post report and told MaxPreps later Tuesday, "We felt that there were several excellent schools in the area, including
Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) and Creek (
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo.).
"We feel that Valor Christian is the best fit for Luke academically, socially and athletically. He has not committed anywhere (to a college) yet."
The transfer from
Episcopal (Jacksonville, Fla.) is coming into a good situation, as Valor Christian is graduating its top two quarterbacks. The Eagles are moving to Class 5A, the state's top level, in the fall after winning three consecutive state titles, the last two in Class 4A.
Last fall Del Rio passed for 2,530 yards and 20 touchdowns, and he is drawing interest from some major Division I colleges.
