Justin Sawmiller, Kenton

Justin Sawmiller of Kenton (Ohio) became the all-time leading pass catcher in Ohio on Friday after finishing with 14 catches and 185 yards in a 34-10 win over Ottawa-Glandorf.

Sawmiller has 64 catches for 1,057 yards on the year, giving him 351 receptions and 4,995 yards in his career. The receptions total passes Ben Wonderly of Fairview (Sherwood), who completed his career in 2008 with 349 catches. Interestingly, Sawmiller was not listed in the Ohio High School Activities Association record book prior to the start of the season. He began the year with 287 career catches. Sawmiller's 137 receptions as a sophomore also aren't listed on the state association website.

Sawmiller's career yardage currently ranks third behind Tommy Petitt of Kenton, who had 5,172 yards from 2001 to 2004, and Wonderly, who had 5,065 yards.

The Kenton senior ranks just seven catches behind the all-time national record holder, Davis Howell of Christian Academy of Knoxville (Tenn.), who ended his career last year with 358 receptions.

Sawmiller goes for the record this week at Elida. Kenton is off to a 6-0 start.
