Charlotte Catholic (Charlotte, N.C.)
senior running back Elijah Hood
showed why he's a preseason MaxPreps All-American
as he led his team to a 35-28 win over Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) with 325 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
Hood ran for 3,309 yards and 47 touchdowns last year in leading the Cougars to a 13-2 record. He had committed to Notre Dame in late April, but recently decommitted citing a desire to play closer to his North Carolina home.
"It was a difficult decision but it came down to this: I really valued my family and what they stand for and just being around them," Hood told Langston Wertz Jr. of the Charlotte Observer last week. "It was a tough decision, but I felt I had to not only do what was right for me, but what was right for my family. It was about being closer to home and I want to have them with me in my development."
Hood has reportedly not made a decision where he plans to play next season, nor has he announced when he will make his decision. National Signing Day is in February.
Whichever school gets Hood will get a powerful running back capable of carrying 37 times a game, as he did in the win over Gonzaga. According to the Observer, Hood had nine runs of 10 yards or more and had touchdowns runs of 47 and 63 yards.
