The son of former major league baseball star Rafael Palmeiro announced via Twitter that he will attend North Carolina State University.

His father is one of just four players in history to collect more than 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. Preston's brother, Patrick, also played at Heritage and is now in the Chicago White Sox organization.

Preston also considered Texas Christian, Oklahoma State and his father's alma mater, Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed hitter batted .387 in his senior campaign for Heritage (Colleyville, Texas). In addition, he drove in 28 runs and belted three homers. Most of the year he played first base and batted in the key cleanup position.

Despite a strong senior year he was not chosen in the June Major League draft, but he has a few years ahead of him in college to impress the scouts.
