Covering High School Sports in America
The Lower Merion (Ardmore, Pa.) Aces had not won a state championship in 53 years prior to Kobe Bryant's arrival at the school. It was his senior year when the soon-to-be NBA champion and Olympic gold medal winner would take the Aces to the promised land along with head coach Gregg Downer.

Bryant would score 34 points, pull in 11 rebounds and post nine blocks when they beat rival Chester in the 1996 district title game. He would continue to lead the team through the playoffs on to the 1996 AAAA state title where it beat Cathedral Prep 48-43 at Hersheypark Arena.

Not much time passed before Bryant made his decision: College or the pros.

Watch the video below of Bryant's run through the playoffs, all the way to they day he ended up with the Los Angeles Lakers.
