Covering High School Sports in America
The Central Valley Christian (Visalia, Calif.) girls soccer team beat Immanuel (Reedley, Calif.) by a 6-0 score Tuesday. Considering what's been going on at CVC the past 10 years, it was no surprise.

But it was a huge reason to celebrate.

The Cavaliers' victory in Central Sequoia League play was their 105th-straight league triumph, a streak that has set the California standard and has spanned 10 years and three different leagues. The former record was 104 by Bonita (La Verne, Calif.) from 1994-2003.

The man who started the streak, former coach Scott Elgersma, was in attendance Tuesday, according to the Visalia Times-Delta. He won the first 11 matches of the streak, and Brian Schapp contributed two seasons' worth before current coach Jacob De Groot took over.

Senior captain Emily Vannette was quoted in the story as saying "We all knew this was coming. Now we can put it in the back of our minds because we still have so much more (to) go."

Vanette has gone 48-0 in league matches in her high school career, according to the story, and will seek a third-straight CIF Central Section title.
