Thon Maker, a 15-year-old 7-footer from Sudan, is being compared to a young Kevin Garnett or Kevin Durant following his appearance in the Miami Hoops Festival on Saturday at Miami Carol City High School.
The slender 200-pounder had a modest six points, seven rebounds and three blocks as his Assists Academy team lost to Team Breakdown 65-55.
But Maker, who will be a freshman this fall at Metairie Park Country Day (Metairie, La.)
, flashed the potential to be the No.1-ranked player in the Class of 2016 due to his unusual quickness and agility from years of playing soccer.
Demetrius Henry, a 6-8 standout who scored 19 points for Team Breakdown, told the Miami Herald, "I think the seven-footer will be tough. He can dribble and shoot the ball. The biggest thing for him to work on is his strength and ability to get into the post. Once he gets a dominant post game, that kid will be hands down the number one player in the country."
