The next step figures to be slippery, steep and downright dangerous.

According to the Arizona Republic, Washington State-bound quarterback Tyler Bruggman fired touchdown passes of 64 and 70 yards to highly-touted receiver Devon Allen in a 37-14 opening-night win over Mountain Ridge Wednesday night.

The Arizona power now gets the No. 4 team in the country – Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) – in a nationally-televised game Saturday at Phoenix College. That will be the second of an usual three-game challenge in 10 days for Brophy.

Brophy coach Scooter Molander held out several starters, who were ailing, according to Republic reporter Richard Obert, but all are expected to be back against Santa Margarita.

The Broncos weren't especially sharp but they were short-handed, it was the season opener and Mountain Ridge played tough. "We'll certainly take a look at what we need to improve on," Molander told Obert. "We've got two days to do it."
