Covering High School Sports in America
It's one of the rarest feats in sports – a goalie scoring a goal – so it's definitely worth a mention when it happens: Especially when the goal scorer wasn't even expected to play in the game.

Kennedy (Bloomington, Minn.) sophomore goalie David Johnson was in the lineup Tuesday because a teammate was sick, and he made the most of his opportunity by scoring a goal in a 2-1 victory by the Eagles. Not only that, the goal was unassisted.

As recounted by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Farmington (Minn.) put on a scoring charge that resulted in a delayed penalty against Kennedy. To take advantage of the pending penalty, Farmington pulled its goalie to add an extra attacker.

During the rally, Johnson cleared the puck out of the Kennedy zone and it ended up in the empty Farmington net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

"I kind of just lifted my hands up in the air, and I celebrated a little bit," the Johnson told the newspaper the next day. "My teammates started coming up to me, giving me fist pumps and everything. That's when it started kicking in."

If anyone has video of the goal, please send it along. We'd love to see it and post it for everyone to see.
