Two of the nation's top junior basketball players went head-to-head on Saturday during the Indiana vs. Illinois Showcase in Indianapolis, Ind.

Trey Lyles, (6-10, 245) ranked No. 5 in the nation by MaxPreps, dominated with 24 points and 14 rebounds to spark Arsenal Tech (Indianapolis, Ind.) to a 73-51 victory over Curie (Chicago, Ill.). The No. 4-ranked player, Cliff Alexander (6-9, 240), led Curie with 18 points.

Lyles told the Indianapolis Star, "It was definitely a game I had circled on my calendar. He's a good competitor and we're good friends, so we went hard at each other."

The high scorer on the five-game card was junior guard P.J. Thompson, who poured in a career-high 40 points to lead Brebeuf Jesuit Prep (Indianapolis, Ind.) to a 79-74 overtime victory against Providence-St. Mel (Chicago, Ill.).

*Reagan (Pfafftown, N.C.) basketball coach Howard West is the No. 3 winner in state history after posting his 700th career victory.

*On the girls side, 5-8 guard Bianca Quisenberry posted her fifth consecutive triple-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists (plus eight steals) as Tecumseh (New Carlisle, Ohio) rolled past Stebbins (Riverside, Ohio) 72-41.

*Six-foot junior Victoria Vivians exploded for 51 points and 19 rebounds as Scott Central (Forest, Miss.) routed Leake County (Walnut Grove, Miss.) 68-24. She had 50 points in an earlier 57-42 victory against Louisville (Miss.)

*Joliet Catholic Academy (Joliet, Ill.) has a terrific freshman, 5-9 guard Nicole Ekhomu. Already a fancy ball handler, she had 36 points and six steals - and was at her best in a fourth-quarter comeback - during a 73-70 victory over previously unbeaten Fenwick (Oak Park, Ill.).

*Pius X (Lincoln, Neb.) ended a 104-game winning streak with a 40-38 victory over Seward (Neb.) on a rebound basket by Becky Brokaw with 12 seconds left. Seward has won the last four Class B state titles.
