Portsmouth (N.H.) routed Coe-Brown Academy (Northwood, N.H.) 12-1 in five innings on Friday to run its baseball winning streak to 85 - two short of the national record.

The four-time defending Division II state champions scored nine times in the second inning with just two hits. They also benefited from seven walks - five with the bases loaded - a hit batsman and an error.

* Kyle Weller struck out 17 and also hit a solo home run while leading Pleasant Plains (Ill.) to a 7-6 baseball victory over Riverton (Ill.). The senior right-hander , who is headed for Parkland College, threw 138 pitches.

*On the softball front, Yesenia Evaristo struck out a school-record 20 batters, but her Bethel (Conn.) team still was handed a 2-0 loss by Oxford (Conn.), whose Ashley Guilette struck out 16. Evaristo scattered five hits, while Guilette yielded only two.
