Covering High School Sports in America
San Antonio mayor Julian Castro, who delivered the keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, is fired up for playoff basketball in Texas.

Castro indicated via Twitter that he promised a player at Lanier (San Antonio) that he would dye his hair if the Voks made the Class 4A playoffs.
Thanks to a third-place finish in 4A-District 28, Lanier did earn a spot in the postseason and opens tournament play Tuesday against Hayes (Buda).

According to Fox Sports Southwest, going blonde is a playoff tradition at Lanier.

"I think it's big for the school," Lanier basketball coach Rudy Bernal told Fox Sports Southwest. "And the kids at the school, not just the athletes, but the kids to know, 'Hey, he said something. He's going to keep his word.'"

The Voks – a play on "vocational" – are 25-7 and have won nine of their last 10 games heading into Tuesday's playoff opener.
