The Charlotte Observer reported this week that
Charlotte Latin (N.C.) replaced one in-state volleyball legend with another.
Suzie Pignetti announced that she will retire as volleyball coach on July 1 and she will be replaced by Zoe Bell.
Pignetti led Latin to nine consecutive state championships. During her 35-year career at three schools, she compiled a 745-120 record with 15 state titles. In 2012 she was named National Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
As a breast cancer survivor, Pignetti helped found an annual tournament called "Serve For The Cure," which has raised more than $300,000 in 11 years for breast cancer research.
Bell, who has coached for more than 30 years, has won five Class 4A state championships. She comes from Ardrey Kell High.
