Glades Central head coach Roosevelt Blackmon and his squad will not take the field tonight.

A showdown between two of South Florida's most storied programs will not take place tonight.

The reason for the cancellation? Gang violence.

That's the news that Northwestern (Miami, Fla.) shared on its Twitter account on Friday, less than eight hours before it was scheduled to head to Palm Beach County to take on Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.)

Northwestern will move to 4-4 with the automatic victory, while Glades Central falls to 3-5.

Neither squad is enjoying one of its better seasons, but both boast a tremendous amount of history and program success.

An economically depressed area that once was a thriving economy centered on the sugar cane industry, Belle Glade and surrounding areas have produced numerous NFL players, including Fred Taylor, Santonio Holmes and Jesse Hester.
