Friday night's contest between Simeon (Chicago, Ill.) and Morgan Park (Chicago, Ill.) was suspended after a fight in the stands resulted in a stabbing, according to the Chicago Sun-Times
In a game played at Gately Stadium on the South Side of Chicago, Simeon led Morgan Park, 6-0, when the game was suspended with 10:27 left in the third quarter.
The Sun-Times said police responded to reports of gunshots, but that the police did not believe a gun had been fired.
"Our dispatcher informed us there was no indication of shots fired,”
police spokesman Daniel O’Brien told the Sun-Times. “There may have been a person who
flashed a gun which may have precipitated or escalated the fight."
The police cleared the stands and canceled the game around 9:20 p.m. local time.
"Chicago Police decided to cancel the game,” Calvin Davis, director of Chicago Public League sports administration, told the Sun-Times. “They felt
there were unsafe conditions in the area. Nothing happened on the field.
