Covering High School Sports in America

Glenn Farello of Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) glows with positive energy and is among the nicest and most accommodating coaches in high school basketball.

So it hurts to imagine how badly Washington Catholic Athletic Conference rival Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.) is haunting Farello's dreams right now.

To prepare the student section – "VI Man" – for Friday's meeting with O'Connell, Paul VI channeled WWE superstar Daniel Bryan during pregame (see video above).

But the chant couldn't get the Panthers over the hump as Paul VI fell 73-66, the fourth loss in five meetings with O'Connell over the past two seasons.

Farello and the Panthers bounced back Sunday with a huge 55-48 win at DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.). Paul VI is 20-5 on the season and ranked No. 25 nationally by MaxPreps.

Bryan, a former singles and tag team champion in the WWE, has seen his trademark chant replicated by sports fans all over the country in recent months.
